As a solo artist, his use of a dizzying mixture of analog hardware
and newer digital technology give him a signature sound that is
difficult to pin down to just one (or two or three) genres. Layers and
layers of synthesizer, bass and enticing effects are laid over broken
hip-hop and down-tempo inspired beats to create rich textures with a
jazz undercurrent.
The lush and dynamic quality of his music is a product of the
time and care put into every element. Alex B takes sound design to the
level of intricate craftsmanship, where every detail is scrutinized and
refined.
With an interesting sound that is versatile yet reigned in,
it's not surprising that Alex B has been invited to share a stage with
a diverse and accomplished group of artists including Prefuse 73,
Flying Lotus, Telefon Tel Aviv, STS9, Nosaj Thing and Glitch Mob. Alex
also adds an impressive component to performances by Lipp Service, the
live project of producer Eliot Lipp, and Pnuma PA, where his production
really shines.
His new found exposure has made him an in-demand remixer,
collaborator, and solo performer, but most of all Alex B is a gear head
and studio fiend. He never tires of experimenting with new devices or
software programs, and left to his own accord, would probably never
step outside the studio except to play a live show. His wide-reaching
grasp of instrumentation and music equipment make him adaptable to fit
a lot of bills. Adeptly switching from introspective head nodding to
dance floor freak-outs with similar skill and enthusiasm, he maintains
a certain appeal and resourcefulness as an artist.
Alex B If there is a spare minute in Alex B's life, it is
spent in the studio working on music. Although he is classically
trained on violin and an array of other instruments, he is best known
as the outstanding bass player and guiding force behind Pnuma Trio, the
live electronic band that in just one year played over 220 shows all
around the world after breaking onto the scene to immediate acclaim and
success.
Benga Imagine the first club you ever get into is, as you step inside, in the process of changing the face of urban music? Imagine you’re only 14 at the time, yet you’re already a producer. Well, Croydon dubstep star Benga doesn’t have to imagine: that is his life.
Age 14 the afro-haired producer went to his first club, Forward>> at London’s now defunct Velvet Rooms, the night widely acknowledged for founding the bassy UK garage hybrid, dubstep.
Having put in years of graft, Benga, now age 21, is a leading light in the rising global dubstep movement alongside his childhood friend, Skream. This year he drops his debut album proper for Tempa, provisionally entitled “Diary of an Afro Warrior,” after the mighty mane that sprouts from his head. “If I cut my afro off, I’d have to start again musically,” laughs Benga.
Aside from the best haircut in dubstep, Benga has a lot to be happy about. At 15 he released his debut 12” “Skank/Dose” on one of dubstep’s founding imprints, Big Apple. A&Red by one of the most influential DJs in dubstep, DJ Hatcha, the label was run out of the Croydon shop of the same name, the hangout for much of the early pioneers and future stars such as Artwork, Horsepower, Hatcha, Chef, Plastician and Skream.

Sub Swara Drawing from the most ancient of musical traditions as well as the most
cutting edge modern soundscapes, Sub Swara has already become one of New
York's hottest monthly club nights since its inception in August 2005 at
the Sullivan Room. The name itself represents these converging sonic
lineages - Swara being the tonal center of Indian music and Sub representing
the bass-fueled dance floor energy provided by the backbone of midtempo,
breakbeat, UK grime, glitch, and drum n bass aesthetics. At the core of the night lies the Sub Swara Live Set, which has become a
highly sought after act both in New York and worldwide. Sub Swara
residents, Dhruva, Sunder, Haj, and Pictureman create a genre-defying
palate of morphing tempos and imagery, with intricate sonic
conversations between decks and percussion, all interlaced with original tracks and
an undeniable dance floor appeal. The SS crew will be dropping a host of
new original tracks, DJ mixes and video material in 2006.
